HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Holds Stroke Awareness Open House

Nationally, May is designated as stroke month. To raise awareness, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital is holding a stroke open house Tuesday, May 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main lobby of the hospital.

Since 2009, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital has been certified as a primary stroke center through The Joint Commission. This certification allows St. Mary’s to care for acute stroke patients and their families with the hospital’s resources and processes. “Strokes can happen to anyone,” says Michelle Bovyn, RN and emergency department nurse educator. “That is why it is so important to know the signs of stroke and be able to recognize when something could be wrong. At our open house you will learn about strokes, stroke prevention as well as the care that St. Mary’s provides to victims of strokes and their families.”

The stroke open house will feature giveaways, refreshments and information on St. Mary’s primary stroke center all-in-one care including information on warning signs and risk factors, blood pressure screenings, healthy eating and exercise tips as well as information on our new stroke support group.
