Newborn follow-up care

Newborn follow-up care is recommended within 48 hours of discharge. If this is not feasible, the mother and baby are asked to return to St. Mary's for breastfeeding assessment, weight check and jaundice assessment, as indicated.

A telephone helpline to lactation consultants and early post-discharge follow-up calls are provided to our patients.

The certified nurse midwives, lactation consultants, pediatric nurse practitioner, physicians, breastfeeding educators and women and infants center nurses work as a team to provide continuous support, education, resources and reassurance to families.
